Help clean up our air and fight air pollution

Clean air is important for protecting our health and that of our planet. Clean air reduces the chance of respiratory illness and protects us from harmful pollutants.

There are lots of ways you can help to reduce and improve the air quality in your local area. These include:

  • Walking or cycling instead of taking the car - 20% of trips are less than a mile, so there’s plenty of opportunity. It’s good for the air but also for your physical and mental health.
  • Turn your engine off when your car is idle - Common spots for idling (your engine is on but you’re not driving) are often where people are waiting such as outside schools. Harmful air pollution in these areas is particularly damaging, because children are more susceptible to the effects of air pollution.
  • Support green spaces - Support and engage in the creation and maintenance of green spaces in your community. Trees and vegetation act as natural air filters, improving local air quality.
