New government funding for low carbon heating announced

Over £3 billion of funding has been made available to support rollout of heat pumps and heat networks from 2025 across the UK including in the NHS. This includes:

  • £1.545 billion through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, offering grants of up to £7,500 for heat pumps and biomass boilers, including in smaller non-domestic properties. This is likely to be suitable for primary care premises and smaller trust owned properties.
  • An additional £1.17 billion for the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme, which provides funding for low carbon heating systems, renewables, and energy efficiency measures for NHS trusts.
  • £530m for heat networks with green heating sources and to improve the efficiency of existing networks.
