Following the thorough judging process, NHS Transformation Unit and Lancashire and South Cumbria ICB was shortlisted, ahead of the official awards ceremony to be held next year (21 March), with its Clinical and Care Professional Leadership Framework standing out as a real ‘success story’ worthy of a prized place on the panel’s shortlist.

About the Project

As part of the move from local clinical commissioning groups to Integrated Care Systems, Lancashire and South Cumbria ICB commissioned NHS Transformation Unit to help develop a Clinical and Care Professional Leadership Framework, ensuring a full range of professionals are involved in decision-making. That work has now concluded.

Dr David Levy, the ICB’s medical director, said: “In 2021, NHS England and Improvement published guidance to support Integrated Care Systems transition to system working. This required the formation of a multi-disciplinary leadership model that will form a significant part of the decision-making process across the region, with experienced clinicians representing every strand of transformation and service development.”

“The developmental work by NHS Transformation Unit included system-wide workshops being held to build upon early engagement, and a multi-professional steering group being created to provide strategic advice and oversight.”

“Together, we developed a comprehensive multi-professional leadership framework, roles for appointment, and development framework, all adhering to national guidance, tailored to the requirements of the system and place.”

Sarah O’Brien, chief nursing officer for the ICB, said: “This was a really important piece of work, and the fact that it is a finalist in the ‘Most Effective Contribution to Integrated Health and Care’ category really reflects the success of our joined-up, collaborative approach.”

“I’d like to thank NHS Transformation Unit for spearheading some vital aspects of the developmental work, and to all colleagues who have been involved, demonstrating how beneficial this multidisciplinary approach has been.”

Lucy Davies, the TU’s delivery director, added: “It is fantastic that our work is being shortlisted for one of the most prestigious industry awards. Just to be among the finalists is recognition for all the hard work of both our team and our NHS partners.”

“Regardless of whether we win the award at the ceremony in March, we are pleased that this has highlighted the successful delivery of a major piece of work.”

HSJ editor Alastair McLellan, adds; “It always gives me great pleasure to congratulate our finalists at this stage of the judging process and this year is no exception as we acknowledge NHS Transformation Unit and Lancashire and South Cumbria ICB for being shortlisted in the category of Most Effective Contribution to Integrated Health and Care.

“The calibre of entries left our panel of expert judges with some tough decisions to deliberate over. However, it’s always important to remember that the HSJ Partnership Awards are not just a celebration of success stories, but also a platform to shape the future collaboration within the NHS.”

“We can’t wait to welcome our finalists to the awards ceremony in March and to recognise and applaud such impressive achievements across the sector.”

The selected winners will be announced during the awards ceremony at Evolution London on March 21st 2024.
