Hello, my name is Louise Peacock and I am the new maternity and neonatal independent senior advocate for Lancashire and South Cumbria.

I support women and families where there has been an adverse outcome during their maternity and/or neonatal care. I am here to listen to you and to help and support you and your family to be listened to and heard by your maternity and neonatal care teams.

You do not need to be sure if there were mistakes or negligence in your or your baby’s care to ask for my support. I can attend meetings with you, as well as supporting you through investigation and complaints processes as your advocate. I do not work for a hospital trust and my support is free.

An adverse outcome is a serious incident or an outcome that has required or may require further formal investigation during maternity and neonatal care – so, I can support women and families who have experienced a stillbirth, a neonatal death, a maternal death, an unexpected or unplanned hysterectomy which happens within six weeks of birth, being admitted to critical or intensive care during or after a pregnancy or birth, or a brain injury that has been diagnosed or suspected, including hypoxic-ischaemic encephalopathy (HIE).

I have worked in maternity services in Cheshire and Merseyside for the last 10 years and been a lecturer in midwifery. This means I really know maternity and neonatal systems and can help you to understand them too. I will sit alongside you on this journey and make sure you feel listened to and heard by those who have provided your care.
