The following steps follow the process of pre-planning, planning, implementation and review.

NB:  For those GP Practices that have signed up to the ICB Quality Contract 2023-24 you will find these steps outlined for you (see section below for timelines)

  1. Pre-planning
  2. Annual workshop
  3. Bi-annual review
  4. GP Partner & Key Leads Awareness & Support Webinar

You need time to prepare and build what you know about Your Practice, Your Workforce and Your PCN.

Prior to embarking on a Practice Annual Workshop what do you know about your own Practice and who do you want to attend.

  • What are the Plans for your Practice ( have you ever mapped them out)
  • What are the Priorities or “asks” for your Practice (local, regional, national)
  • What are the Priorities or “asks” for your PCN (these will have and influence on your Practice don't forget
  • Do you know your Workforce well?
  • Do you know how your Workforce will deliver your Practice Plan and PCN Strategy
  • Do you know if you have Workforce Gaps and what they are?

Here are some Tools from the Tool Box to help you build this information?

We recommend that you are inclusive and include as many of your practice staff in the Annual Workshop as you feel you need, to help you identify and most importantly understand their roles in your organisation – help them to help you.

Your Annual Workshop should cover the following:

  • Your Practice Plan or Strategy.  It doesn't have to be long - just has to be one page.
  • What are Your Practice objectives.  Do you know what your "asks" are this year and next year or ambitions for future years?
  • What can Your Team do to contribute to the process
  • Do you already know your Workforce (what hours, days of the week, aspirations?
  • Have you undertaken a Workforce Gap analysis?  Do you know if you have any gaps in your workforce (do you enough GP's, Nurse, HCA's..... for example, is it cost effective to employ different staff...)
  • Create a Workforce Plan if you havent already?

The Bi-annual Review is aimed at:

  • Reviewing your last 6 months Practice and PCN Plans (is the situation still the same)
  • Review your Workforce Plan (what changes need to be made)
  • Workforce Mapping (have any gaps been filled / gaps created)

It is suggested that GP Partners, Business and Practice Managers and other Key Practice Leads attend this.

Awareness Sessions will be held throughout the year to offer GP Partners and Key Practice Staff support in ensuringy you get the most out of Your Practice Succession Planning.

Webinars will be advertised here.......
